Our Services
As long as we have a room available we can accommodate people needing short term respite. We do not have the DHB funded respite bed so don't have a bed available to book through out the year. Please ring us and if we can, we will help out.
If beds permit we can also provide private respite for convalescence post surgery or medical event until people feel safe to return home.
We pride ourselves in our palliative approach to care. What that means is we will talk openly with you about any end of life questions you might have. We believe that, like any phase in your life, being prepared to die, when the time comes, is really important. We see and receive regular feedback regarding the value in having had open and honest discussions. We will talk to you about having an Advanced Care Plan, if you agree we will help get this written with you. While we hope everyone's stay at Cook Street is long and happy we don't hide the obvious, that this move generally represents the final stage in ones life. At the end of life we continue to provide the care here, in what will have become ‘home’ with familiar surroundings and staff.
We are fortunate to have Cook Street Health Care Centre has our contracted GP service. We are supported by all the GP's but usually it is Dr John Drake who runs our twice weekly clinics. John has years of GP experience, he is also committed to ensuring high standards of quality, timely care for our residents. Together we work closely with Arohanui Hospice for support and back up when required.
